Kottayam: In a move that would boost the tourism prospects of Kalathikkadavu in Kottayam, the district panchayat has decided to install solar lamps at Bund Road in the area. The work will be carried out utilising an amount of ₹20 lakh from the division fund of district panchayat member P K Vysakh, by including the project under the district panchayat’s annual plan.

Kalathikkadavu is an ideal location for morning and evening walks near Kottayam town. The potential of Kalathikkadavu, a picturesque spot situated on the banks of the Kodoor River, to attract visitors was highlighted by Explore Kottayam, a tourism column in ‘Malayala Manorama’ newspaper.

Several people arrive in the area for walks in the morning and evening. The pleasant breeze in the evenings and the sight of lush paddy field offer a soothing experience to visitors. However, the lack of illumination prevented people from spending much time at the spot in the evening, and the plan to install solar lights is expected to solve this issue.

“There is a situation where people are not able to enjoy their evenings at the spot due to the darkness. We will be installing LED lamps along the entire stretch of the Bund Road spending ₹20 lakh. The illumination will enable visitors to spend a longer time at Kalathikkadavu,” said district panchayat member Vysakh.
