Kerala govt hikes Onam allowance for MGNREGS, AUEGS workers to ₹1,200

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has raised the Onam festival allowance for workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and the Ayyankali Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme (AUEGS) by ₹200. Finance Minister K N Balagopal announced on Tuesday that each beneficiary will receive ₹1,200 this year, compared to ₹1,000 in 2024.
Altogether, 5,25,991 workers will benefit from the decision. Of this, 5,19,623 MGNREGS workers who completed 100 workdays in the last financial year will share an allocation of ₹51.96 crore.
Similarly, 6,368 AUEGS workers who met the same work requirement will receive the allowance, with ₹63.68 lakh set aside for disbursal.
Hike in Onam allowance for employees, pensioners
The state government on Monday announced an increase in Onam benefits for employees and pensioners. The festival allowance for government staff and teachers has been raised by ₹500, bringing it to ₹4,500 this year. Those not eligible for a bonus will receive a special festival allowance of ₹3,000, up from ₹2,750.
Service pensioners will get ₹1,250, an increase of ₹250, and retirees under the contributory pension scheme will also be eligible for the benefit.
