Bengaluru: Air Commodore MK Chandrasekhar (92), father of BJP state president and former Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, passed away in Bengaluru while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Chandrasekhar joined the Indian Air Force in 1954 and retired as Air Commodore in 1986. Over his distinguished career, he flew more than 11,000 hours and trained several prominent pilots, including the late Rajesh Pilot. He was also the recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal and many other honours.

A native of Desamangalam in Thrissur, he is survived by his wife Anandavalli, son Rajeev Chandrasekhar, daughter Dr Daya Menon (USA), and children-in-law Anju Chandrasekhar and Anil Menon (USA). The funeral will be held later.
