Lakkidy: With the rains subsiding, heavy vehicles were allowed to resume travel on the Thamarassery ghat road from 7 pm on Friday. Trucks and buses that had been held back at Adivaram and Lakkidy were permitted to pass, though restrictions continue for trucks. Passenger buses can operate as usual.

Earlier in the day, only small and medium vehicles were allowed on the stretch. The decision to allow buses and trucks followed discussions between the Kozhikode and Wayanad district administrations.

Heavy vehicles had been barred on Thursday evening after fresh mudslides near the 9th curve at Lakkidy, where a major landslip had occurred on Wednesday.

On Friday morning, Kozhikode District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh inspected the mudslide site. Later, a review meeting held at the Kozhikode Collectorate, attended by officials from the revenue, police, and Fire and Rescue departments, decided to allow restricted truck movement while permitting buses as usual.

For trucks, only one-way traffic will be allowed on the ghat stretch. Parking at the View Point remains prohibited. Special police patrols will continue, and radars will be brought from Kozhikode to scan the terrain and assess the depth of the crevice that has formed.

Authorities have warned that vehicle movement will be suspended again if rains intensify.
