Thodupuzha: Posing a serious threat to public safety, an electricity trap has taken shape in front of the District Hospital here.

The power lines, which were laid beneath the tiles of the footpath, have now surfaced with cables protruding from broken pipes. Although it has been a month since the cables became exposed, no steps have been taken to relay the lines by installing a new pipeline.

That this hazard lies on the pathway leading to the new hospital building further raises the risk. Staff members point out that the risk is especially high during rains due to waterlogging. They also complain that electric sparks are already generated from the spot whenever it rains.
