Kozhikode: The Forest Vigilance wing on Tuesday morning seized sandalwood logs worth ₹25,000 from a house near Balussery and arrested the owner. The accused has been identified as Thiyya Kandi Tarique of Kannadippoyil, Panagad.

Officials recovered 6.8 kg of sandalwood logs and small pieces kept in his house, reportedly ready for sale. Acting on specific intelligence, the Kozhikode Flying Squad led by range forest officer A P Sreejith carried out the raid.

Tarique, along with the seized logs, was handed over to the Kakkayam Forest Station for further action. Officials said he is also an accused in another case registered by the Thamarassery range for felling sandalwood trees in the Kakkur area.

The squad included section forest officer Asif A and beat forest officers C Mohammed Aslam, M Devanandan, Sreenath K V and Lubaiba N.
