Malappuram: KT Jaleel MLA has accused the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) of conducting a “second foundation stone drama” for the Mundakkai–Chooralmala rehabilitation housing project.

Jaleel questioned how many times the League would repeat foundation-laying ceremonies before the promised 105 houses were actually built. “If permits for 105 houses really exist, let them at least show copies to journalists in Wayanad,” he said.

The MLA alleged financial mismanagement, pointing out that while the state government had acquired 160 acres for more than 400 families, at a cost of just over ₹43 crore, or around ₹23,000 per cent, within earshot of Kalpetta town, the League spent over ₹13 crore merely on land acquisition. “Had the land been purchased properly, at least ₹8 crore could have been saved,” he said, adding that only one-and-a-half acres of the 11 acres bought had building approval, with the rest being plantation land.

Jaleel further accused the party of diverting public funds. “Over the past two and a half decades, the League has turned into a party that raises funds, mismanages them, and uses them for its own purposes. Even in their last press conference, League leaders hinted that further fundraising would be necessary,” he said.

The foundation stone for the housing project was first laid on April 9, 2025 and again on September 1 by IUML state president Panakkad Sadik Ali Shihab Thangal. The site, located at Vellithode in Thrikkai Petta village under Meppadi panchayat, lies adjacent to the Muttil–Meppadi main road. The plan envisions 1,000-square-foot houses on eight cents of land each, with structures designed for two-storey expansion.
