‘Manjummel Boys’ fraud case: Producers move HC for permission to attend Dubai awards

Kochi: The producers of the film “Manjummel Boys”, Shawn Antony and Soubin Shahir, have approached the Kerala High Court seeking relaxation of anticipatory bail conditions that restrict them from travelling abroad without permission of the court.
Both are accused in a cheating case and had earlier moved a criminal miscellaneous petition before the Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court, Ernakulam. The court rejected their plea to modify condition ‘f’ of their bail order, which bars them from leaving India.
In their petition, they argued that they must travel to Dubai to attend the South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) 2025, where the film has been nominated for Best Movie. During the hearing, Justice P V Balakrishnan questioned the prosecution’s objections, asking what their apprehension was regarding the producers’ four-day trip. The bench, however, orally criticised the petitioners for booking tickets before obtaining court approval. “How can you be sure the trial court will permit you? That shows malafide,” the judge said.
The case stems from a complaint lodged by an investor, alleging that the petitioners, under the banner of M/S Parava Films LLP, induced him to invest ₹7 crore in the project with a promise of 40 per cent profit share. The complainant claimed the producers failed to honour the agreement.
Maradu Police registered a case under IPC Sections 120B, 34, 406, 420 and 468 against Antony, Shahir and the latter’s father. The High Court had granted them anticipatory bail with conditions on June 26, 2025. The matter will be heard further on September 8.
