Thrissur: Disciplinary action is being considered against police officers accused of assaulting Youth Congress Chovalloor Mandalam president Sujith inside the Kunnamkulam police station. The move comes after CCTV footage obtained by Sujith through the Right to Information Act revealed serious lapses in police conduct.

A police inquiry led by Crime Records Bureau Assistant Commissioner Sethu K C confirmed that Sujith was assaulted inside the station. The inquiry noted that the complainant’s claim that officer Shashidharan manhandled him before entering the premises may be true, as CCTV visuals showed the officer walking to the station around the same time Sujith was brought there in a police jeep.

The inquiry further found that the assault continued upstairs in the CCTN room in the presence of Sub-Inspector Nuhman. Footage also showed officers removing Sujith’s ring, bracelet, and chain. It recorded an officer taking him out of the CCTN room while another followed carrying a stick.

Meanwhile, Sujith alleged that police attempted to offer ₹20 lakh through Congress leader Varghese Chovannur to withdraw the case, an offer he declined.
