Kozhikode: Dr Shirley Vasu, one of Kerala’s most prominent forensic experts, passed away on Thursday. Her body has been kept at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital (MCH). 

A key figure in several high-profile criminal investigations, Shirley played a crucial role in advancing forensic science in the state. In 2017, she was honoured with the Justice Fathima Beevi Award, the Kerala government’s prestigious Vanitha Ratnam (State Woman Achiever) Award.

A native of Thodupuzha, Shirley served as the head of the forensic medicine department at the Kozhikode MC.

She completed her MBBS from the Kottayam Medical College in 1979 and went on to pursue her post-graduate studies at Kozhikode MC. She began her career in forensic medicine in 1981. In 1995, she was awarded a fellowship by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for advanced training.

She also authored a book titled 'Postmortem Table', in which she shared her professional experiences.
