Alappuzha: The district has been handed a raw deal in the ongoing allocation of new KSRTC buses to various depots. Out of the 50-odd buses distributed, Alappuzha has received only two fast passenger services. 

The district was also overlooked in the first phase of allocation of long-distance multi-axle sleeper buses. In fact, Alappuzha does not even feature in their routes. The same neglect is now evident in the allocation of superfast, fast passenger and ordinary services as well.

Of the two buses allotted, one fast passenger has been assigned to the Kayamkulam depot and another link fast passenger to the Cherthala depot. Not a single bus was allocated to the Alappuzha, Haripad, Mavelikkara, Chengannur or Edathua depots. Despite the heavy passenger rush on the National Highway during mornings and evenings, no new services have been introduced.

Expectations were also high that a super class bus would be sanctioned for the Bengaluru–Alappuzha route, which enjoys significant passenger patronage, but none was allotted. 

Even during the peak Onam season, the district managed only one special service. Most of the long-distance buses operating from Alappuzha continue to be outdated. Across the state, KSRTC has received 143 new buses. Passengers now demand that Alappuzha be given due consideration in the allocation of the remaining vehicles.
