Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and thundershowers across Kerala until September 10, following the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal. The associated cyclonic circulation, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilting southwestwards with height, is expected to move west-northwestwards across East Madhya Pradesh within the next 24 hours.

The IMD noted that the Southwest Monsoon has been active in Kerala, bringing widespread rainfall over the past few days. On Friday morning, moderate showers are likely in 11 districts: Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur &  Kasaragod, according to the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA).

IMD's rainfall data between August 28 and September 3 shows Kannur, Ernakulam, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Thrissur, and Wayanad received excess rainfall (20–59% above normal). Meanwhile, Idukki, Malappuram, and Wayanad recorded deficient rainfall (20–59% below normal) during the ongoing monsoon season (June 1–September 3).
