Manarcad, Kottayam: The annual festival at the St Mary's Jacobite Syrian Cathedral is entering its auspicious days, blessed by the prayers of the eight-day lent. Devotees will piously participate in the 'Raasa' (procession), carrying ornate ceremonial umbrellas and gold and silver crosses.

The 'Raasa' will commence from the church courtyard at 2 PM, accompanied by traditional musical ensembles. The procession will circuit the Kaniyamkunnu Cross Church, proceed via the Cross Church at Manarcad Junction, pass through Karotteppalli, and then return to the Cathedral.

The renowned 'Nadathurakkal' (opening of the church sanctuary) ceremony, which involves the unveiling of the holy images of the Blessed Mother of God and Infant Jesus for public veneration, will take place on the 7th at 11:30 am. The 'Nadathurakkal' rituals will be officiated by His Beatitude Baselios Joseph Catholicos.

On the main festival day, the 8th, the festival will conclude at 2 PM with the serving of 'Nercha' (votive offerings/meals), following a procession around Karotteppalli. The 'Nada Adakkal' (closing of the church sanctuary) will take place on the 14th, coinciding with the Sleeba Perunnal (Feast of the Cross), following the evening prayers at 5 pm.
