Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) at isolated places across Kerala from Monday to Wednesday.
A yellow alert has been issued for six districts — Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram — on Tuesday. Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram will remain under yellow alert on Wednesday as well.
According to the IMD, a yellow alert indicates rainfall ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.
The rainfall is likely to disrupt the Kerala government’s cultural programmes organised as part of the culmination of week-long Onam celebrations in Thiruvananthapuram. On Tuesday, a cultural procession is scheduled to be flagged off by Governor Rajendra Arlekar at 4 pm on Manaveeyam Veedhi.
In Pathanamthitta, heavy downpours could also dampen the spirit of the Aranmula Uthrattathi Boat Race on Tuesday.
