Kochi: Filmmaker Sanalkumar Sasidharan was brought to Kochi on Monday by a team from the Elamakkara police station after being taken into custody in Mumbai. The police team, which was sent to Mumbai to detain him, arrived in Kochi by train around 9.45 pm.

Sasidharan's detention at the Mumbai airport on Sunday was a result of a lookout circular issued against him. The circular is connected to a case of online harassment filed by a prominent woman actor in January. The director had recently arrived in Mumbai from the United States, where he had been living and repeatedly posting on social media about the actor. In these posts, he alleged that she was facing threats from a "mafia."

Upon his arrival in Kochi, Sasidharan spoke to the media, asserting that he was being wrongfully taken into custody by the police. He also repeated the claims he had made about the actor in his online posts.

The police confirmed that his arrest would be officially recorded and he would be produced before the court on Tuesday. The next steps in the case will be determined after a detailed interrogation.

Even while in police custody on Sunday, Sasidharan continued to post messages online, protesting the police action. This isn't the first time he has been in a similar situation; in May 2022, he was arrested by Kochi police on charges of stalking the same actor before being released on bail.
