Panamaram: A stray dog bit a student inside a classroom at the Government Lower Primary School here on Monday, the first day after the Onam vacation. The victim, Muhammed Bishrul Hafi, a Class 3 student, was bitten on the leg.

According to reports, the dog attacked the boy when he stepped out of the classroom during the interval. He was initially taken to the Primary Health Centre here and later shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Mananthavady.

The stray dog had given birth to pups near the wash basin in an abandoned corner of the school, which had not been locked. It is believed the dog entered the school building while it remained closed during the Onam holidays.

Following the incident, members of the Parents-Teachers’ Association (PTA) shifted the pups to another location outside the school. In view of the chances of the stray dog's attack, the students were also moved to another classroom in the building.
