Vagamon: The passengers of a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) super deluxe bus had a narrow escape after the vehicle’s battery burst while running due to a short circuit.

Although smoke and fire erupted from the battery, officers of the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), who happened to be passing by, prevented the fire from spreading by using a fire extinguisher from a nearby school bus. The passengers were immediately shifted to safety.

The incident occurred near Vagamon, a hill station in Idukki district, around 5.30 pm on Wednesday. Initially, smoke was seen rising from the engine area of the bus, which was travelling from Kattappana to Pala. MVD officers said the bus’s brake system was damaged. They also noted that clutch fluid had leaked, which caused the engine to overheat.
