Kannur: Kannapuram police on Friday arrested two more persons in connection with the August 30 explosion at Keezhara that flattened a rented house and killed one person.
The accused were identified as P Aneesh (36) of Paduvilayi in Vengad panchayat and Raheel (33) of Uruvachal in Mattanur municipality. The arrests were made by a team led by Station House Officer Mahesh Kandambeth.
Soon after the explosion, police arrested Anoop Malik of Alavil in Chirakkal panchayat. The dismembered body of his brother-in-law, Muhammed Asham (54) of Chalad in Kannur city, was recovered from the blast site.
Police said Malik was running an illegal firecracker unit from the secluded house. Five months ago, he had taken the house on rent. "The two arrested today and the man who died were workers there,” said an officer on Friday. They ruled out the possibility of country bombs being made from the unit.
Neighbours, including the ward member, said they were unaware of such an operation in the house, which belonged to a retired schoolteacher. The blast also damaged four neighbouring houses.
