Kollam: Two men died after a rescue attempt went wrong inside a community well in Parippally on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Vishnu (25) and Harilal (24).
The incident took place around 2.30 pm when Vishnu fell into the 90-feet-deep well while drawing water. Hearing cries for help, Harilal, who worked at a nearby chapati-making unit, rushed to the spot and climbed down using a rope.
However, while both were being pulled up, the rope snapped halfway, sending them plummeting back into the well. They sustained severe injuries and died before the Fire and Rescue Service could reach them. The bodies were recovered by the fire force personnel around 5.30 pm.
Parippally police said inquest proceedings would be held on Sunday after recording statements from family members and eyewitnesses.
