Thiruvananthapuram: The actions of Parassala SHO Anil Kumar P involved in the Thiruvananthapuram hit-and-run case brought disrepute to the Kerala Police, according to a report submitted to South Zone Inspector General of Police Shyamsundar IPS. The report by DIG Ajeetha Beegum states that the incident created public dissatisfaction with the police, who are duty-bound to protect them.
Following confirmation that it was Anil Kumar who drove the vehicle that ran over 59-year-old Rajan, the Thiruvananthapuram Rural Narcotic Cell Deputy Superintendent of Police has been tasked with an investigation and will submit a detailed report within two months. Kumar was suspended from service on Monday.
On September 7, 2025, between 4 am and 6 am, at Irattachira Junction, Anil Kumar’s car hit Rajan, a daily wage labourer, seriously injuring him. The incident was not reported, and Rajan was not taken to the hospital. Rajan, who was on his way to have tea, lay injured on the road for nearly an hour after the collision. Around 6 am, a police team shifted him to the Keshavapuram Community Health Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Initially, the case was recorded as a hit-and-run involving an unidentified vehicle. However, CCTV footage later confirmed Anil Kumar was behind the wheel.
