Kochi: The Kochi City police have initiated a probe into a complaint filed by the family of rapper Hirandas Murali alias Vedan, alleging a political conspiracy to brand him a habitual offender. The complaint filed by Vedan's brother to the Chief Minister's office was forwarded to Kochi City Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya, who directed it to the Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner of Police.

The Commissioner said the Thrikkakara ACP, who is already handling the rape case against Vedan, will also inquire into the fresh allegations. “We will look into all aspects of the complaint. A separate inquiry will be conducted by the ACP as part of the case,” he stated.

Vedan faces multiple cases, including one of sexual exploitation in which a woman doctor accused him of abuse between 2021 and 2023 in Kochi under the promise of marriage. He has secured anticipatory bail in the case registered by the Thrikkakara police and has appeared before police for questioning.

Other complaints include a sexual harassment case filed by a research student alleging misconduct. Vedan has denied the allegations, maintaining that some of them are part of a campaign to defame him.

With the new directive, the Thrikkakara ACP will conduct a parallel inquiry into the conspiracy complaint while continuing the ongoing investigation into the criminal case.
