Lack of zebra lines, signages puts students of this Kannur school at risk

Alakkodu: The absence of zebra crossings and signages on the macadam road in front of a school here has created a serious safety risk for students and others who use the stretch.
The Udayagiri–Thalippara–Thabore Road passes directly in front of Prathyasha UP School, Udayagiri. Despite this, authorities have failed to install signboards or safety markings along this stretch. The danger is compounded by the sharp curve and steep gradient right in front of the school. The lack of zebra lines, warning signs indicating the school’s presence and even a protective safety wall has left the area prone to accidents.
Adding to the risk, a panchayat road lies just across the main road, forcing students to cross the busy stretch daily. With vehicles often over-speeding along this macadam road, several accidents have already been reported in the vicinity.
Though the school authorities lodged a complaint with the District Collector regarding the safety risk over a year ago, no action has been taken so far. A complaint has also been submitted to MLA Sajeev Joseph.
