Elamkulam: In the latest move in the row over the naming of the newly built healthcare sub-centre in Kunnakavu, the action committee held a protest march on Wednesday to the panchayat office. The action committee and the opposition have demanded that the name the healthcare subcentre after Puthumana Vasudevan Namboothiri, who donated the land.

However, the panchayat ruling committee has decided to dedicate the subcentre to former Chief Minister EMS Namboothiripad. The march was held to protest this move to name the subcentre after EMS.

The march that began near the Elamkulam village office was blocked by a police team led by SHO Sumesh Sudhakaran in front of the panchayat office. The march was then followed by a meeting, which was inaugurated by former panchayat president C Sukumaran. Action committee chairperson and member of ward nine Salma Kunnakavu presided over the meeting.

Meanwhile, Perinthalmanna block panchayat member Nalakathu Shaukath, Hussain Madala, Manikandan Kadanna Mangalath and action committee convenor Faisal Kunnakavu addressed the protestors. The march was led by ward members Hairunnissa, Sreenivasan, Girija, Bharathi, Faseela and PK Keshavan, Abduhiman Sheelath, Navas Madayil, VP Shaukath, Ansar Kunnakavu, T Hussain, Bindu Mohandas, K Abeer and Anwar Nechiyil.
