Idukki: An elderly man was assaulted and robbed after being deliberately hit by a two-wheeler near Karuka, Kumarakom, on Thursday evening. Police have arrested one of the accused in the case. Shinil Razakh of Undaplavu, Thodupuzha, is a known KAAPA Act offender.

The man, Shamsudheen of Kumaramangalam, was walking along the roadside around 4.30 pm when the gang rammed into him with their bike, knocking him down. They then snatched his wallet containing about ₹3,000 and his mobile phone.

When Shamsudheen resisted, the gang brutally assaulted him, leaving him with serious head injuries. Residents rushed to the spot after hearing his cries. While the three-member gang tried to escape, the people managed to catch Shinil and handed him over to the Thodupuzha police.

Cops said the other two accused, also KAAPA Act offenders, who escaped, have already been identified. A search operation is underway to nab them.

Shamsudheen is undergoing treatment at Thodupuzha District Hospital. Shinil was produced before the court and remanded.
