Coconut tree falls on resting MGNREGA workers in TVM, two women killed

Thiruvananthapuram: Two daily wage women workers were killed when a coconut tree uprooted and fell on them at Kunnathukal in Neyyattinkara on Saturday, police said.
The victims were identified as Vasantha (65) and Chandrika (64), both employed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme.
The accident took place while the women were resting after lunch during work hours. The tree came crashing down without warning, fatally injuring them. Though rushed to the hospital, they succumbed to their injuries.
Two others were hurt in the incident and are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital, police added.
