Kochi: The Kalamassery police on Sunday took into custody a youth for molesting a 6-year-old child of a migrant couple. The accused, who had been absconding, was traced to Marayoor in Idukki. Police said the child revealed the incident to her parents on Saturday.

The accused, their neighbour, had allegedly sexually assaulted the child multiple times over the past four months. After the crime came to light, he fled the area. Following the parents’ statements, police launched a probe and tracked him down.

He has been booked under Sections 75(30) (sexual harassment) and 65(2) (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
