Thiruvananthapuram: In a marked shift, the Nair Service Society (NSS) on Wednesday declared its trust in the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government, with general secretary G Sukumaran Nair welcoming the state’s change of stance on matters of faith. He said that although the government could have allowed young women to enter Sabarimala, it chose not to.

Nair accused the Congress of wavering on faith-related issues and the BJP-led Centre of failing devotees. “We trust the government. The Congress and BJP have done nothing for believers. Union Minister V Muraleedharan once promised a law on Sabarimala, but what happened? Neither party can act,” he said.

He clarified that the NSS opposes only certain ideas, not individuals. “If those who once created problems are now correcting them, there is nothing wrong in aligning with such efforts. There is no politics in this,” he added.

The remarks followed the NSS’s participation in the Global Ayyappa Sangamam organised by the Devaswom Board, signalling closer ties with the state. By staying away from the rival event held by other groups, the NSS further reinforced its position. The government views this as a positive sign, though it is yet to be seen how the Congress will respond.
