Over 300 cyclists ready for Kottayam’s largest ever cyclathon

Kottayam: The Kottayam Cyclathon, organised by the Kottayam Cycle Club in association with Caritas Hospital in connection with World Heart Day, is set to take place on Sunday. With over 300 registrations already, organisers say the event is poised to become the largest cyclathon ever held in Central Travancore.
The rally will commence from the grounds on the campus of Caritas Hospital at Thellakom. District Collector Chetan Kumar Meena will flag off the 100 km race at 5.30 am, while District Police Chief Shahul Hameed will flag off the 40 km race at 6.30 am. The Collector is also slated to participate in the 40 km race.
The 40 km race will begin at Thellakom and follow a route through Kottayam, Manarcad, Kindangoor and Ettumanoor before concluding back at Thellakom. The 100 km race will also start from Thellakom and proceed via Ettumanoor, Kuruppanthara, Kaduthuruthy, Thalayolaparambu, Vaikom, Kumarakom, Kottayam, Manarcad and Kindangoor before returning via Ettumanoor to finish at Thellakom.
Key organisers of the event include Kottayam Cycling Club President Cheriyan Varghese, Caritas Hospital Director Fr Dr Binu Kunnath, Joint Director Fr Jismon Madathil, Cycling Club Secretary V A Shameer and Programme Director Dr Manoj Kumar.
