Malappuram: A 13-year-old boy died and four others of a family were injured after their car rammed into a parked lorry on the six-lane national highway near Kohinoor on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Izaan.

Police said the Maharashtra-registered lorry had been parked on the roadside when the family’s car crashed into it. The impact forced the car onto the divider, leaving its front portion completely wrecked.

Heavy rain at the time of the accident is suspected to have contributed to the crash. An investigation is underway.

Just days earlier, two people were killed at V K Padi in a similar incident involving a stationary lorry. The district administration has now assured strict enforcement of traffic rules on the newly opened highway.
