Kozhikode: A Congress worker was found dead in the verandah of the party office in Meppayur on Monday morning. The deceased is Edavana Meethal Rajan (64), a native of  Nedumpoil. Rajan was found hanging from a hook on the sunshade of the Indira Bhawan-Priyadarshini Kalavedi building, which houses the Nedumpoil ward committee office.

He was a newspaper agent for several publications in Meppayur and Arikkulam grama panchayats. According to his brother Vijayan, also an agent, Rajan had left home early as usual to collect newspapers. But he was later found dead at 4 am. 

Meppayur police reached the scene, conducted an inquest, and shifted the body to the mortuary at Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode. Following an autopsy, the body was handed over to the family, said grama panchayat ward member Anish.

Rajan is survived by his wife, Anitha, and children, Sreenivasan and Chithralekha.
