Feroke: The patients at the government taluk hospital, which was recently shifted to a new building, have been struggling due to a severe shortage of doctors. There were only two doctors on duty in the OP this morning. Patients were forced to stand in long queues for hours before getting the chance to consult the doctor. Besides, specialist doctors too weren’t available yesterday.

The new hospital building was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on August 31. Hundreds of patients come to this hospital on a daily basis, hoping to get better treatment facilities. However, they have been complaining that there aren’t enough doctors at this hospital to treat the patients.

The OP ticket has to be collected from the old building while the OP functions in the new building. Local residents say that this arrangement is causing difficulty for the elderly patients. Besides, complaints are also rife that there aren’t enough medicines at the hospital. The health department has been urged to intervene in the matter as soon as possible.
