Kasaragod: DYFI Kumbla area president and lawyer Adv C Ranjitha(30) was found dead in her office chamber in Kumbla on Tuesday evening in a suspected suicide, police said. Ranjitha, a practising lawyer at the Kasaragod Bar, was the daughter of Chandran, a temple worker and Varijakshi of Kumbla Bathery. She is survived by her husband Krithesh, their eight-year-old son and her brother Sujith.

According to CPM Kumbla area secretary Zubair C A, Ranjitha, who was also a member of DYFI’s block committee, was active until 5 pm. When her family could not reach her later, they went to her office and found the door locked. Police were called and, after forcing the door open, found her dead inside. Her body was taken to the mortuary of the District Cooperative Hospital in Kumbla.

Zubair said the police had recovered a suicide note but had not disclosed its contents. The Kumbla Station House Officer said an investigation had begun but declined to share further details at this stage. Ranjitha’s other brother, Ajith, also a DYFI leader, died a year ago in Karnataka while trying to rescue children from drowning.
