Idukki: A 19-year-old youth drowned in the Muthirappuzha River near Kallarkutty, Adimali, on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Atul Jiji of Chakkungal, Ancham Mile.

According to eyewitnesses, the youth suddenly ran and jumped into the river. Locals who were fishing on the riverbank noticed the incident and immediately alerted the Adimali Fire and Rescue team. Fire personnel retrieved the youth from the water and rushed him to Adimali Taluk Hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The body has been kept in the hospital mortuary. Vellathooval police have initiated further proceedings.
