Kochi: A group of students from Jain University, Kakkanad, have creatively transformed discarded glass shards into a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, symbolising the need for recycling, simplicity, and sustainability.

The students of the School of Design, Media Arts and Creative Arts at the university collected glass waste from various locations and crafted it into the Gandhi statue. When they proposed its installation, the Thrikkakara Municipality offered space for the eight-foot-tall sculpture at the municipal park.

The statue, depicting Gandhiji with his walking stick, was unveiled by Uma Thomas MLA. The event was attended by Municipal Chairperson Radhamani Pillai, Future Kerala Mission Chairman Venu Rajamony, Jain University Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr J Latha, New Initiatives Director Tom Joseph, Ward Councillor V D Suresh and others.
