Malappuram: Rajasthan Police have arrested three men from Kerala for allegedly extorting nearly ₹60.1 lakh from a Bikaner resident through a so-called ‘virtual arrest’.

The accused were identified as Suneej (38) of Alancheri House, Melattur-Edappatta; Ashwin Raj (27) of Valeriparambil House, Puthol, Thrissur and Muhammed Shafeek (29) of Palliparambil House, Vattallur, Kolathur, Perinthalmanna.

According to police, the group threatened the victim with false terrorism charges and coerced him into transferring ₹60,08,794. The suspects were tracked down and apprehended in Malappuram by Rajasthan Police, with assistance from Melattur Police.

“We extended all necessary support in locating and nabbing them. Rajasthan Police are handling the investigation and our role was limited to assistance,” Melattur Inspector of Police P M Gopakumar told Onmanorama.                                                                     

The three men were produced before the Perinthalmanna court before being taken to Rajasthan for further proceedings.
