Thrissur: A woman died when the ambulance taking her home from a hospital check-up crashed into a divider on National Highway 66 at Pokkulangara on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Sushama(55), wife of Radhakrishnan of Aruketti House, Engandiyoor. Her sister, Sathyabhama (52), who accompanied her in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries, including fractures in both arms and is undergoing treatment at Ashwini Hospital, Thrissur. Sushama had recently undergone a spinal surgery and was resting.

The ambulance was driven by Sushama’s younger son, Abhishek, who also sustained hand injuries and was admitted to a nearby private hospital.

The accident occurred at around 2.30 pm while returning home after a consultation at the Government Medical College Hospital, Thrissur. Her body was shifted to the Medical College Hospital mortuary.
