Vandiperiyar: After a prolonged wait, electricity has finally been restored to the home of young sisters Hashini and Harshini, enabling them to study again under proper lighting.
Acting on a directive from the District Collector, officials of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) installed additional utility poles to extend power to the family’s house in Injikkadu. The Collector also instructed the estate management, KSEB, and the Vandiperiyar Panchayat to take necessary steps to avoid legal complications related to the connection.

The house, owned by Mohanan, an autorickshaw driver, had earlier relied on an informal electricity connection extended from the nearby Vandiperiyar Club. Over time, the wooden poles supporting this setup had deteriorated, eventually cutting off supply to both the house and the club.

Following this, Mohanan submitted a formal application to KSEB for a new connection, and the house was rewired to meet required standards.
However, during the process, a fresh obstacle emerged. The estate management approached the panchayat, claiming ownership of the land on which Mohanan’s house stands. Citing this dispute, the panchayat refused to issue an ownership certificate, prompting KSEB to initially deny the new connection.

Thanks to the District Collector’s intervention, the issue was resolved, and the family now has a steady supply of electricity — bringing a long-overdue sense of relief and dignity to their daily life.
