Pappinissery: What is so special about this house that has been completed in Kollam's Piravanthoor recently? The answer is, it has been built with love and compassion emanated from the district of Kannur. The housewarming was held today.
The new house meant for a couple residing in Karavoor, Piravanthoor, Pathanapuram has been built by two expatriates, who are natives of Kannur. The deplorable condition of the family, living with an infant in a roadside shack made of plastic sheets, had previously been circulating on social media.
Although Sujith, a rubber tapper, had applied under the government's Life Mission project, he faced a long waiting period due to the huge number of beneficiaries. It was at this point, four months ago, that the expatriates decided to build a house for the family.
Santhosh Kanthalott, a native of Pappinissery Thuruthy working for UBS Company in Kuwait, along with an individual who wishes to remain anonymous, is providing the house.
The house was constructed by a Kollam-based contractor, Subhash, at a cost of ₹8.5 lakh. The construction of the house, featuring two bedrooms, a hall, and a kitchen, was completed yesterday.
Santhosh's wife, Reena, and their children arrived in Kollam from Kannur to hand over the keys. Under the leadership of Santhosh, who has been living in the Gulf for 22 years, eight deserving families were previously provided with houses.
