Peria: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has begun installing smart meters in the district. Initially, smart meters will be installed in government offices and feeder meters at substations. Around 7,500 meters have been brought to the district.
The goal is to complete the installation of smart meters in government offices and feeder meters at substations by the 31st of this month, said KSEB Kasargod Circle Deputy Chief Engineer Muhammed Sayid.
Smart meters are being introduced as part of an alternative model. KSEB plans to complete the installation of smart meters in 11kV and 22kV feeders of substations by the end of this month and in government offices by November.
The State Government has issued strict directives, as the initiative is linked to its additional borrowing plans. Among Low Tension (LT) consumers, only government offices are currently being equipped with smart meters.
Instructions have also been issued to complete meter installations for solar, EV charging and ToD (Time of Day) consumers that require software modifications by the end of November.
The State Government will supply 1.50 lakh single-phase meters, 37,000 three-phase meters and 1,100 LT CT meters for consumers. Most of the single-phase meters have already reached the section offices. The remaining meters will be made available in October.
