Kaduthuruthy: In a heartwarming act of community spirit, students of the Sunday School and the Cherupushpa Mission League at Kaduthuruthy St. Mary’s Forane Church — popularly known as Thaazhathupally — have built a house for one of their classmates by collecting and selling scrap materials.

This marks the 11th house constructed under the ‘Home Pala’ project, a special initiative launched as part of the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Pala Diocese.

The house will be blessed by Mar Joseph Kallarangatt, Bishop of the Pala Diocese, in a ceremony scheduled for tomorrow at 4 pm, according to Forane Vicar Fr Mathew Chandran Kunnel.

In addition to constructing 11 houses, the parish has also undertaken renovation work on several existing homes to make them livable, reinforcing the community’s commitment to supporting its most vulnerable members.

To fund the latest house, the children raised ₹4 lakhs through the collection and sale of scrap materials. Additional funds were generated through casual labour offered for the construction, with further contributions coming from generous donors. The remaining amount was supported by the parish itself. The total cost of the house came to approximately ₹9 lakhs.

The overarching goal of the Home Pala project is simple yet powerful: to ensure that no one in the parish is left without a home. The project is being spearheaded by a dedicated team that includes Vicar Fr Mathew Chandran Kunnel, Co-Vicars Fr John Naduthadam and Fr Abraham Periyappuram, Churchwardens Sony Adappallil, George Joseph Paattathikulangara, and Jose James Nilappanakkolliyil, and Housing Committee Members George Pulikkeel, George Niravath, and Joseph Cheerakkuzhi.
