Kottayam: A 55-year-old woman was found dead with her throat slit behind her house at Thellakom in Ettumanoor late on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Leena Jose (55), wife of Jose Chacko of Poozhikkunnel house. Her body was found by her son, Jerin Thomas, near the kitchen behind the house shortly after midnight. He had returned home from work at a shop near Kottayam Medical College. A knife and a vegetable cutter were recovered from the spot.

At the time of the incident, her husband, Jose Chacko and her younger son, Thomas Jose, were at home. Relatives said the younger son had been facing mild mental health challenges. Police said the husband and two sons are being questioned. Preliminary information suggests Leena had been under mental distress.

The body has been shifted to the Kottayam Medical College mortuary for post-mortem examination after inquest procedures.
