Idukki: A migrant woman gave birth to a baby boy inside a Kanivu 108 ambulance while being rushed to the hospital. The woman, Anju (32), a native of Jharkhand and a worker at the Shanmugha Vilasam Estate in Suryanelli, Idukki, went into labour on Wednesday evening around 7 pm.
When she began experiencing severe labour pain, her companions quickly contacted the Kanivu ambulance service. The emergency message was passed on from the control room to the Chinnakkanal Family Health Centre’s ambulance team.
Ambulance driver Naisal N and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Rani Saritha Bhai promptly reached the spot and started transporting the woman to Adimali Taluk Hospital. However, as the ambulance reached Chinnakkanal, her condition worsened. After assessing the situation, Rani realised that delaying the delivery could endanger both mother and child.
She quickly prepared the ambulance for an emergency delivery, and at 7.45 pm, the woman safely gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Following the delivery, Rani carefully cut the umbilical cord and provided essential first aid to both mother and baby.
Ambulance driver Naisal then drove them safely to Adimali Taluk Hospital, where both mother and child were reported to be in good health, according to relatives.
