Thiruvanthapuram: A man hit his son on the head with a metal rod on Thursday afternoon, causing serious injuries following a scuffle between them at their residence over the young man's demand for a luxury car.
The incident, which unfolded near Vanchiyoor, left the 28-year-old in critical condition at the government medical college here, police said. Police booked Vinayanand, father of the youth for attempt to murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and is currently in hiding, they added.
An officer reported that the Vinayanand had recently bought an expensive motorbike worth ₹17 lakh for the son, but the youth was not satisfied with it and demanded a luxury car. This led to an argument at their residence on Thursday, where the son physically attacked his father. Following this Vinayanand retaliated using a metal rod, the officer said.
The neighbours and relatives of the family told the police that the unemployed son frequently demands expensive things and responds angrily when they are not met.
"The father has switched off his phone and is in hiding. We have launched an investigation and are searching for him," the police said.
