Kannur: As many as 10,833 single-phase meters in government offices across the district will soon be converted into smart meters in the first phase. The initiative, launched by KSEB, aims to replace old meters with modern smart meters for improved efficiency.

The project, being initiated under the Capex-model, envisages installing smart meters inside protective boxes for added security. Simultaneously, a trial run of three-phase meters is also underway. Three-phase meters have been distributed to all KSEB offices in the district and staff have received training to coordinate the installations.

The new meters are integrated with KSEB’s billing software via a dedicated web application. A mobile app, ‘Workforce Management,’ has also been developed to enable field staff to update installation details in real-time. Using the app, staff can activate the new meter by scanning its QR code and uploading photos of both the old and new meters.

Meter readings will be transmitted to the billing software ‘Oruma’ through messages sent via SIM cards installed in the smart meters.
