Kovalam: S Sreekala, who made her mark in public service as a Panchayat President and later as a Sub-Inspector of Police, is now entering the legal profession. At 56, she has enrolled as a lawyer, and her husband Rajmohan will accompany her on this new chapter.

Having recently retired, Sreekala, a resident of Rajashree in Thiruvallam, chose not to settle into a quiet life. Her husband Rajmohan, who retired as Senior Superintendent in the Panchayat Department, has also enrolled as a lawyer alongside her.

A former member of the Chief Minister’s security team, Sreekala decided to study law immediately after retirement. Her journey in public life began in 1996 when she became the first woman president of Thiruvallam Panchayat. After completing her term, she received a job offer from the Kerala Police, which she accepted, continuing her service to the public.

During her tenure as Panchayat President, Sreekala also completed her LLB degree, successfully balancing her academic pursuits with governance responsibilities. She holds the unique distinction of being both the first woman president and the last president of the erstwhile Thiruvallam Panchayat before it was merged with the current local body.

Sreekala says she intends to remain active in public life even as she begins her legal career. She currently serves as Vice President of the Thiruvallam Local Committee of the All India Democratic Women’s Association. The couple’s son, R S Abhinand, works as an Assistant Director in the Irrigation Department.
