Kerala to witness heavy rain till Sunday, yellow alert in 5 districts today

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across several parts of Kerala over the next few days due to multiple cyclonic circulations over the southern region.
As a result, heavy rainfall ranging between 7 cm and 11 cm in 24 hours is very likely at isolated places of Kerala till Sunday, October 19. The IMD has issued a yellow alert in five districts on Tuesday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph are also likely over parts of Kerala till October 17.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over coastal Andhra Pradesh and its neighbourhood at around 0.9 km above mean sea level, the IMD said in an update on Monday. Another circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Tamil Nadu coast persists between 1.5 km and 3.1 km above mean sea level. The IMD also noted that the circulation over the west-central Arabian Sea extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. At the same time, the one over the north Konkan and adjoining areas has weakened.

The weather department has advised the public to remain cautious, avoid open areas during thunderstorms, and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities.
