Malappuram: Police have arrested a woman accused of breaking into the house of a bedridden elderly couple and stealing their gold ornaments in Pullur near Manjeri. The accused is Jaseera Mol (47) of Achipparamban House, Pullur.

The incident took place around 2.30 pm on August 8, when Jaseera, along with her daughter, allegedly entered the rented house of Thomas Babu and his wife Soumini, both elderly and ailing, residing at Ramankulam, Pullur. Taking advantage of the caretaker’s absence, the duo barged into the house.

According to the police, the bedridden woman, who is visually impaired, was alone in the bedroom when the suspects restrained her hands and gagged her to prevent her from shouting. They then snatched a pair of gold earrings weighing about one sovereign from her ears.

The stolen jewellery was later traced and recovered from a jewellery shop in Manjeri, where the accused had sold it. Police said Jaseera’s daughter, who assisted in the robbery, is currently absconding.
