Kanhangad: A wave of development is sweeping through the Kanhangad railway station here, with projects worth around ₹14 crore now underway.
The key works to be initiated include construction of drains along the station road, a well-designed porch in front of the station and the reconstruction of the ticket counter have already begun. Roofing over the first and second platforms will commence shortly, while construction of a footbridge, complete with a lift, on the northern side of the station is already underway.
Work to improve parking facilities on both the eastern and western sides of the station will also begin soon. An allocation of ₹1 crore has been made to enhance lighting across the station premises. Renovation of the Railway Station Road will be carried out alongside the drainage construction.
A proposal for station development under the Amrit Bharat project did not materialise. However, public intervention, along with efforts by the Kanhangad Development Forum and the Passengers Association, has helped expedite the station’s development initiatives.
