Mulankunnathukavu: Arangazhikulam pond has been revived by the panchayat by spending around ₹1.98 crore. The panchayat ruling samiti proposed a plan to revive and preserve the water body to ensure sufficient water supply for drinking water, agriculture and health. The project that was implemented in the last five years has now given a new lease of life for Arangazhikulam pond.

Facilities to purify and supply the water pumped from the pond have been put in place. Besides, the water from the pond flows to the nearby paddy fields too. The tile paved walkway around the pond gives a cleaner look to the vicinity. Now, the local residents use this walkway for jogging and running. Besides, a play area for the kids and an open gym too have been arranged in the wider spot. Steps are constructed on the side for the visitors to get into the pond.

The project that was flagged off in 2018 had gone through multiple stages and phases before getting completed now. It was started in 2018 – 19 using ₹71 lakh that was allotted from MLA’s infrastructure development fund. After that, ₹1 crore was allowed from the Nagara Sanchaya project, ₹15 lakh from MGNREG and ₹12 lakh from the panchayat fund.

The project will be presented to the public by opposition leader VD Satheeshan at 3 pm today. Xavier Chittilappally MLA will preside over the meeting. The event will be attended by Thrissur corporation Mayor MK Varghese, Puzhakkal block panchayat president Leela Ramakrishnan and panchayat president KJ Devassy.
