The Kazhakoottam police on Sunday arrested a lorry driver from Tamil Nadu in connection with the rape of a 25-year-old woman IT professional at a hostel in Thiruvananthapuram. A team led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police tracked him through CCTV footage.

“The accused has been apprehended from Madurai and is being brought to the Kazhakoottam police station for further proceedings. We will question him and establish whether he has committed similar crimes in the past. And if there is any other motive,” said an officer.

According to the woman’s complaint filed with the Kazhakoottam police, she was asleep when the man entered her room and assaulted her. When she woke up and resisted, the accused fled the scene. The woman told police she could not see the intruder’s face clearly. She was the only occupant of the room in which the crime took place.
